The International Snow Science Workshop (ISSW) 2016 took place in Breckenridge, Colorado, USA, from 3.-7. October. The ISSW is the world’s marquee conference for snow and avalanche professionals. It aims to connect expert researchers and practitioners in the field of avalanche and snow science to merge theory and practice. Preliminary results of the pluSnow project were presented on a poster and new contacts were made to colleagues for sharing knowledge on fresh snow densities.

On 25. August the objective of the pluSnow project and first results were presented to a highly interested audience at the Swiss Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research (SLF). Since already the project proposal was recommended by Prof. Dr. Michael Lehning, a close cooperation was agreed to investigate the contribution of the settling of fresh snow to snow depth changes in more detail.

The successfull first poster presentation of the project pluSnow at the EGU 2016 General Assembly resulted in a large audience and new contacts for scientific networking.
Kickoff Meeting in Vienna
The project team consisting of members from the Austrian Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) and the Institute of Interdisciplinary Mountain Research, Austrian Academy of Sciences (Innsbruck) met for the kickoff meeting in Vienna. The team discussed the set-up of the database, which is essential for the transfer of the large data amount, within the following weeks.
